Bad Financial Decisions

Updated: Jun 10, 2023

Hello Friends, today I wanted to shed some light on bad money decisions. I truly believe God has called us to be good stewards over the finances he has provided us. I whole heartly agree we should give but do so with a sound mind that is spirit led.

-BAD MONEY DECISIONS –

1. Cosigning

  • Time and time again we have either done this for someone or we know of someone who has done this. It NEVER turns out well! People neglect to keep their end of the bargain and in turn that cosigner ends up in the bad situation. Point: Do not cosign for anything you personally are not willing to fit the bill for if something should go wrong leaving you to step up to the plate.

  • Proverbs 17:18 “One who has no sense shakes hands in pledge and puts up security for a neighbor.”

2. Loaning Money

  • Never loan money that you intend on getting back. The bible says we are to (Luke 6:35) But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

3. Get rich quick scheme

  • While building wealth is encouraged in Proverbs, doing so from a heart of greed is not.

  • Proverbs 1:19 “Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it.”

4. Not having a budget/ Failing to live within my income.

5. Abusing credit

  • Proverbs 22:7 “The rich rule over the poor, And the borrower is slave to the lender.”

-People will beg for what they need but go out and buy what they want.

- Learn to be content with what you have so you won’t get yourself in debt. God will provide what is necessary for you if you focus on what is important to him. Prioritize his kingdom (not our own) and his righteousness (not our own), and he will add food, water, clothing, etc. Have faith today, you'll need it, and don't anxiously fixate on tomorrow. Heaven knows you've got enough on your plate a day at a time. :-)

Prayer: Great is thy faithfulness. Morning by morning, new mercies I see! All I have needed, thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me. Amen.
