Seek Wisdom

The law of the Lord is full of wisdom for those who will follow it. God is the wisest counselor, the most patient teacher, and He is our goodness. Everything we need to know concerning this earthly experience we can find in Him. There is no self-help book, how to guide to, etc. that is more accurate than the Bible to teach us and give us wisdom and knowledge. May we become imitators of God, not of men. He is good and his ways are true. He will lead us in loving kindness on the pathway that leads to his abundant peace, joy, mercy and resurrection life.

In (1 Kings 3:4-14) we see that Solomon Requests Wisdom

The king went to Gibeon to offer sacrifices, for that was the most important high place, and Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”

Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day.

“Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So, give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So, God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.”

Now, just being honest…. if you were in Solomon’s position, what would you have asked for? My first thought would have been to start asking for everything that is paining me to be gone, and then all my wants and desires. Ugh!! But this passage quickly humbled me. While it can be overwhelming with all the things we want and desire and all the things that plague us like sickness, struggles, trials, etc... going through our minds 24/7 we should take Solomon’s approach. Seeking first the Kingdom of God, wisdom and understanding of the word, seeking God’s plan for our lives first. By doing this we see that God is faithful and he provides Solomon with everything else he didn’t ask for that was wealth and honor. Trust and believe that God already knows our desires, our wants, our dreams, etc.… he knows! So, no need to run down the list to him every time we get in prayer. Seek his face and his kingdom and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Prayer: Father God I come before you as humble as I know how. I want to honor you Jesus with my life. I give you all the glory and all of the honor because you are worthy to be praised king Jesus. Lord, I thank you and I seek you with all of my heart. Do not let me stray from your commands. Help me to be a person of integrity who refuses to compromise. Help me to live my life for you regardless of what everyone else is doing. Your word says when we honor you with our lives, you will honor us. (1 Samuel 2:30) Lord, open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. Father, God your word says that you are my sun and shield and that you will give me grace and glory and no good thing will you withhold from me. Thank you, Jesus for wanting the best for me and my family and loving us so much. Father, I ask that you mark me with your presence. Refocus my attention on you, lead and guide me progressively and internally into all truth. Teach me the power of your wonderful words. Awaken me to overcome life as I align my heart, my mind, and my life living with your word. Holy Spirit, lead me in your wisdom and guide me into your goodness. In Jesus name, I pray Amen.
