Different Types of Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer

We go to prayer not to find God, but to be with him. To give him glory and honor. We submit our requests and the things on heart to God during this time. We fellowship with him.

Matthew 6:9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.’

-Pray to “OUR FATHER

-Hollow be thy name “ADORE HIS NAME/WORSHIP.”

-Your kingdom come “THY WILL BE DONE” (pause and ask “Lord I want to hear your agenda, speak to me, what do you want to say to me”)

-Give us this day our daily bread (God give me daily revelation that I need. The wisdom that I need today.)

-Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors (Lord I want to walk in forgiveness and clarity. Clean hands, pure heart. Forgive me Father. Cleanse me.)

-Lead me not into temptation and deliver us from evil.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Prayer of Praise and Thanksgiving

Praise is who He is and what He has done.

Isaiah 43:21 the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.

Psalms 48:1 Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.

Persistent/Unceasing Prayer

Keep praying and saying the prayer until your flesh surrenders and obeys. Pray until you see it. Thinking about God all of the time. Jesus' life is an example of continuous prayer.

Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

While praying, thank the Father for what He has done for you personally.

Psalms 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

Prayer of Petition

Asking God for physical, material, or spiritual things in accordance to his will for your life. Pray for what you need from the Father and be specific.

Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Intentional Prayer

Specific place and time set aside for prayer.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

When you are not sure of what God’s will is.

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Prayer of Agreement

Praying in agreement with other believers.

Matthew 18:18-20 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Praying the Spirit of Tongues

1 Corinthians 14:14-15 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So, what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.

Corporate Prayer

Praying with a group of believers.

Acts 4:23-24 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.

Prayer of Commanding

Authority, praying with boldness.

James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Mark 16:17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues.

Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

Ecclesiastes 5:1-2 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God.

God is in heaven, and you are on earth, so let your words be few.

Prayer of Worship

Adoration towards God, Worship is always connected to sacrifice.

Romans 12 (True and Proper Worship) Therefore, I urge you, brothers, and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.

Psalms 29:2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
